Why the logic fails
Hear me out here. Let’s say that bone density goes down with age for everyone, which it basically does. Not everyone actually goes below into the osteoporosis level, but it does drop.
Now, let’s say that calcium supplements attenuate that. Maybe they do not entirely stop it, but let’s say they reduce the decline.
So if you were to see all the old people with osteoporosis on calcium supplements, that does not mean the calcium supplements cause the osteoporosis, just that they do not fully cure it.
Desert-water analogy
It is like saying that everyone walking through a desert is thirsty, and all those people are continuously drinking water, so it must be that the water is making them thirsty because it is missing some sort of key nutrient.
