And yes, I know you often take pictures with your phone of a nice, beautiful sunset, but that is a different situation than this. When the Sun is at the far end of the horizon, all that light travels through the atmosphere, and the higher-energy blue and UV light gets filtered out.

It is also why it is a lot safer for you to look at it with your eyes when it is a sunset than when the Sun is up in the zenith of its orbit in the sky.
