How to Speed Up a Video in Premiere Without Audio Distortion

If you’ve ever tried to speed up a video in Adobe Premiere using the “Clip Speed / Duration,” feature, you may have been frustrated to find out that the audio suddenly sounds terrible, almost distorted. After putting up with this for years, I finally decided to search for a solution. It turns out one exists, but not within Premiere itself.

The Solution

  1. Export just the audio from your clip.
  2. Import it into an Adobe Audition multitrack session
  3. Go to the Properties tab on the left, click the “Stretch” dropdown, and adjust the clip’s duration.

    2. Export the audio and drop it back into Premiere
    3. Use the “Clip Speed / Duration” without “Maintain Audio Pitch” selected, adjusting the clip to the same duration as your audio.
    4. note: you may have to convert between Audition’s decimal notation and Premiere’s frame-based approach

      Enjoy!
