If you’ve ever tried to speed up a video in Adobe Premiere using the “Clip Speed / Duration,” feature, you may have been frustrated to find out that the audio suddenly sounds terrible, almost distorted. After putting up with this for years, I finally decided to search for a solution. It turns out one exists, but not within Premiere itself.
The Solution
- Export just the audio from your clip.
- Import it into an Adobe Audition multitrack session
- Go to the Properties tab on the left, click the “Stretch” dropdown, and adjust the clip’s duration.
- Export the audio and drop it back into Premiere
- Use the “Clip Speed / Duration” without “Maintain Audio Pitch” selected, adjusting the clip to the same duration as your audio.
note: you may have to convert between Audition’s decimal notation and Premiere’s frame-based approach
